There is nothing more embarrassing for a parent than their kid throwing a tantrum in front of everyone. We have all been there. Seriously, some of us would feel like having a meltdown of our own, whenever kids throw a tantrum. That’s not the solution is it? Tantrums can be reduced and ultimately stopped with wisdom and applying the right strategy. You can stop a tantrum with these simple tricks:
Divert their attention to something totally different. For me it is, "Look at the bird in the sky." "What's the cat screaming about." "Are the neighbors throwing a party?" Engage them in conversation until they forget what they were upset about.
2. Stay Calm
Keep yourself composed and try to be unfazed by the tantrum. Shouting and losing your temper will only make things worse for you and your child.
3. Do not give in to demands
Some parents would give to the demands, too tired to argue with children. This would solve the problem temporarily. The kids are most likely to throw a much bigger tantrum the next time knowing your capability to give in.
Try humoring children with jokes and stories. Learn some knock knock jokes solely for this purpose. The result could be outstanding.
5. Say no to junk food
I have observed that kids eating a lot of junk food like sweets and chocolates are more likely to throw tantrums. The out bursts are usually over another bar of chocolate or more candies. Just minimize the amount of junk food.
Sometimes, parents are too busy in their jobs, house work or have guests over. The kids feel neglected and automatically throw a tantrum to gain attention when approached to avoid possible fits.
7. Spoiling children
Do not spoil children by buying too much stuff for them like clothes, shoes and toys. Learn to say no. Having too many privileges will make them yearn for more and it will also make things difficult for their life in future.
Yes, this is the most important one. Sit with your children and talk to them. Tell them that you will not listen to them if they shout or misbehave. Your house is not a shop where you can buy everything. You cannot comply to every wish that comes out of their mouth. Teach them to be humble and kind. Gradually, you will definitely see change in your children's behavior.
